If education is the vehicles to success, the ability to read and write are the keys to start the ignition. Making sure our students can communicate with the world we live in is paramount to their success and a cornerstone of my campaign. I am passionate in the belief that reading and writing properly is fundamental to their development. Sadly, we are not doing all that we can for our students. Only 57% of our students are ready for postsecondary education in reading and 47% in writing, accord to recent STAAR scores released. The STAAR has its deficiencies, but that is no excuse for not preparing our students for success in the most important subjects we can teach. We must do better.
